We offer local and general anesthesia along with intravenous sedation. During each initial consultation, Dr. Doss will discuss with each patient what the best option for anesthesia will be.

What is Sedation?

Sedation is defined as a state of consciousness in which a given patient experiences a diminished awareness of their surrounding environment. There are several different methods employed to achieve this. The lowered awareness is a key factor in helping patients maintain a level of relaxation during their dental procedure.

Sedation Options

With sedation dentistry, there are several different levels of sedation. The overwhelming majority of dental procedures are performed while using just the lowest level of sedation. In this level of sedation, patients are completely conscious and aware of what is going on around them. They are easily able to communicate with staff.

With moderate levels of sedation, patients and their awareness of their surroundings is lowered even further. Their cardiovascular functions continue as normal but they are far less aware of what is going on around them. They are still able to respond to commands and questions.

At the highest level of sedation, the patient is completely unconscious and unaware of what is going on around them. At this stage, they are unable to answer questions or even respond to commands.
