Full Mouth Reconstruction

Dentist wearing a face mask standing behind patient sitting in dental chair and looking into handheld mirrorEvery patient is unique unto themselves. Their oral health needs are like puzzle pieces. We put them together to form a treatment plan to best suit their individual needs. For some, there are a few pieces missing from their oral hygiene, while others may require a great deal of work to get their oral cavity to a high level of health.

While most patients just need to have their teeth examined and cleaned two times a year, others might need a bit more attention such as getting a filling, or two filled, or even a tooth extracted. While those are the vast majority of patients, there are some who require a good deal more such as an entire mouth reconstruction in order to maintain their oral health. This is not a single procedure but rather a series of dental surgeries employed to restore their oral health.

For any patient who has suffered from periodontal disease and needed to have multiple teeth pulled, bone grafts placed to restore lost bone mass, or had extensive decay, a full mouth reconstruction may be the only way in which to restore their lost oral health. Why not come into our Coastal Maine Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery office today to find out more.

Who Could Benefit from a Mouth Reconstruction?

When the full mouth reconstruction process is complete, there are usually more restorative procedures necessary to make sure the applied dental work blends in with the remaining teeth of the oral cavity. There are a number of appointments and numerous procedures necessary to complete a full mouth reconstruction. It is nothing to be entered into lightly. There is a time commitment necessary to get all of the work completed.

Full Mouth Reconstruction Details

By definition, a full mouth reconstruction procedure is one which affects all of the teeth in the oral cavity. If a patient needs to have a filling placed to treat a cavity on a single tooth it is not considered a full mouth reconstruction. However, if they have dental implants placed and multiple fillings placed, then it could be considered a full mouth reconstruction.

Once the assessment is complete, we will be able to determine which procedures are necessary in order to restore the patient's oral health. Each patient has different needs and will have a unique treatment plan suited for their specific needs.

Those who have had to deal with periodontal disease and widespread issues with tooth decay and even considerable tooth loss can greatly benefit from having a full mouth reconstruction. In some cases, it likely is the only available option to restore their oral cavity.
